## 1. Introduction

### 1.1 Purpose
This specification defines comprehensive international standards for ransomware protection, detection, and recovery. It establishes protocols for preventive measures, behavioral detection, automated response, and business continuity planning to defend against ransomware attacks.

## 2. Core Components

### 2.1 Immutable Backup Architecture

The foundation of ransomware protection is ensuring that clean, unencrypted copies of data always exist and cannot be compromised by attackers.

#### 2.1.1 WORM Storage (Write-Once-Read-Many)
- **Immutability Guarantee**: Once written, backup data cannot be modified or deleted within retention period
- **Storage Types**:
  - Object storage with object lock (S3 Object Lock, Azure Immutable Blobs)
  - Tape archives with physical write protection
  - Dedicated backup appliances with firmware-enforced WORM
- **Retention Policies**: Configurable from 7 days to 7 years based on compliance requirements
